Spiritual Faith Helps Homeless Man

Homeless man, Ted Williams tells raging TV liberals on the 'Today Show' about how God has given him a second chance in life after the life destruction effects of drugs, alcohol and crimes of stealing.

Mr. Williams speaks of his love of God, and how he will apply his future to that of charity.

Interesting enough, this is the type of individual that the Liberals profess to helping and claim that the conservative don't care about. Yet, Mr. Williams got on the Today Show only after the 'Private Sector' discovered him and numerous 'Capitalists' have offered him a job.

No where in this discussion with the TV liberals does Mr. Williams speak of help he may have received from Government or Charitable Liberals, but does give all the credit to God.

Mr. Williams has been given a second change at life, not through 'Hope and Change' but through 'God, Hope and Charity'.

I'm glad for him. But because he believes it was God, then it has to be?

And what about those that die homeless and alone. The ones that charitable conservatives, faith, capitalists the private sector and God didn't help either?

You see its easy to look at one situation and find away for it to make all your notions correct, but when the big picture comes into play, then what do you do?

You and i know charity isn't the whole answer anymore than the government is. Sometimes you have to choose D all of the above.

I know of 50 people right now this very day that would swear a government program got them off the streets. Most would probably credit God for helping create this program.

And while God, Charity and the internet got Mr. Williams a chance at a new life, this program does this for around 200 Mr. Williams in this area alone.

You won't see them on the TV talking about how great the government is, but when you show up to share some Christmas spirit and some gifts they tell you directly how much it gave them.

It doesn't make you wrong, it makes you shortsighted.

But you and I can agree that God helped with this government program...and God help anyone that ever forces cuts that hurt it.

Sweet Jesus, i just read who hired Ted Williams.

Not some pro-right capitalist, but f'ing MSNBC.

If that ain't some shit, i don't know what is.

The TV liberals hired him. and he has a ten minute spot on the last word too. What next?

The press sec. job in the Obama WH?

Joe, the post is about Mr. Williams (not about the 200 others)and who he thanks for the help, 'God' but no mention of the government. Mr. Williams chose God for help, the other homeless may not have (but then that is speculation either way).

As far as MSNBC hiring him, he was offered numerous job by other capitalists. If he works for MSNBC then it was his choice to work for a capitalist who happens to be liberal.

Point is he got a job, making some bacon, and getting his life in order, but he still thanks God!

Adams,

Why do you act like the underlying attacks aren't there and that i'm wrong to comment on them?

Ted Williams didn't say this...

"this is the type of individual that the Liberals profess to helping and claim that the conservative don't care about. Yet, Mr. Williams got on the Today Show only after the 'Private Sector' discovered him and numerous 'Capitalists' have offered him a job.

No where in this discussion with the TV liberals does Mr. Williams speak of help he may have received from Government or Charitable Liberals, but does give all the credit to God."

So Mark wants to discuss Ted Williams belief in God then leave it at that. You want to talk about how Faith can do wonders, i'm all for it. But when you attach things to his words that he didn't mean or say then i will post a reply to those attacks.

Hopefully you checked the links out and see how the government does Mr. Williams in hundreds of cities are over the country. These places could use conservative help too.

It's good to see that you finally admitemsnbc is liberal. But I'm sure that's only for this aguement Joe. You change more often then Madona in a concert. Joe it seems as though you have made God your enemy. I pray He doesn't recipricate. Maybe you need to look a little deeper into your feelings about God. You sound like a bitter semi-believer in a god, rather then the athiest type. Don't you see the mericle in a Liberal doing God's work? Now it would have been a real mericle if MSNBC put him on TV since they are all white on that news station.lol. I'm just having fun with ya so don't get all cranked up.

Chris,
I didn't admit anything. I used it in your terms, as you would see MSNBC. I don't care what it is. I don't watch it.

And i haven't made God my enemy. But thanks for trying to know my heart. As for my belief in God it isn't defined by conventional orthodoxy. My beliefs reside in my heart and mind, not in the decisions of men throughout history.

So I don't know if God was involved.

I don't see much happening these days that God would have a hand in.

Joe, I'm confused. In a past post you spoke of your Lutheran faith and objected to the nothion that God would help one nation when there are many others in need.

In this post you object to a post concerning one man who says God helped him, because there are so many that God didn't help (I hope I have undderstood you correctly).

Now, please understand I am not judgeing you level of faith at all, but the overview of the Lutheran faith is as follows:

With the universal Christian Church, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

Being "Lutheran," our congregations accept and teach Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace alone:
God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
Faith alone:
By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.
Scripture alone:
The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

In the past, Mr. Williams has sinned against God commandments. He has sinned against his own body that God has provided.

He has turned from his sinful and wicked ways and developed a relationship with God.

Lutherans believe that God is merciful and forgiveness comes through spiritual acceptance.

If this man has come to God and through that acceptance has turned his life around, then the acceptance gave him the path to redemtion and God had his hand in that.

Then you say "my belief in God it isn't defined by conventional othodoxy. My beliefs reside in my heart and mind, not in the decisions of men throughout history". How does that work with your given faith as Lutherans are a 'traditional (conservative) and confessional Christian denomination'?

BTW, I see God's hand in our world everyday, if not just from the miracle of life and all that goes with it. Our world is truely an amazing planet and MAN is our worst enemy. The lack of spiritual beleifs by man play a major role in our daily struggles.

The point here is, Joe, you are under the (wrong) assumption, or better yet impression, that conservatives don’t help these people.
There is where you are dead wrong.
Just as many, if not more, give and help. Many with sizable contributions to shelters and volunteer their time as well.
Some help in smaller ways, any way they can.

I will give you an example.
Ever been to Lower Wacker/Michigan Ave in Chicago?
Many homeless people live down there.
And many there stand down there to assist drivers to docks all along those underground streets and how to get there.

I have had to be down there filling in for my driver and was approached by a homeless man who wanted to give me directions, in exchange for any money I could give him.
I don’t carry cash and I told him I knew where I was going.
He turned and started to walk away.
I asked him if he was hungry.
His reply ‘Very much so’
I had my bagged lunch with me, grabbed it, gave it to him and told him to enjoy it.
His reply ‘God bless you’
My reply ‘My god bless you, too’
I believe god brought both of us together that day.

Adams i will comment on my personal side as long you and others don't take that chance to judge it.

I believe in the Grace of God through Jesus Christ and that his death on the Cross paid for my sins. I also believe that the Bible is the word of God, though sometimes i have some doubts. I believe in infantile baptism. I have some doubts there at times too. I believe in the confessional aspect of the Lutheran church.

Some of these things i learned through Lutheran Schools, church, and things like conformation classes. The ones that ring true in my own heart i believe. The things that don't i let go.

But i don't follow all the rules of the Lutheran Church MS, because i don't believe that they were chosen by God to tell us what the Bible says. I read passages and see different meanings sometimes than they do. Thats the easiest way to explain it.

I am a Christian and i believe in forgiveness, by God and man.

I guess its splitting hairs to you, but it was Faith, not God that helped that man. Remember Faith, Hope, and Love.

Faith moved that man to go there, instead of just sitting under a bridge somewhere out of view. "Faith the size of a mustard seed will move mountains" not "God the size of..."

He credits God, i credit himself. His faith.

But since we are talking about my beliefs too, i just don't think God only helps some of his children and lets others starve and die homeless.

So when someone says God saved them, i wonder why that man instead of the 6 children that died in Macomb county of abuse. Why didn't he save them? And part of me is disturbed that it could be true. That God saved a 50 some year old addict with a golden voice and let 6 innocents suffer and die. And Chris is right at that moment till the rage goes away, i am that God's enemy.

Mark, you completely misread my comments. They are two separate thoughts and neither suggest conservatives don't help.

I simply asked, What happens to those that didn't get help from the sources you said helped Mr. Williams? What happens when those things aren't enough?

I even ended that thought with this...

You and i know charity isn't the whole answer anymore than the government is. Sometimes you have to choose D all of the above.

The second statement was an invitation, not an accusation. Just because those vets have the government helping doesn't mean you can't.

Joe, Thanks for sharing. I know neither Mark or I would personally judge you or anyone for their faith. In addition, I would expect others who post here to be respectful, also.

To me, a person's faith was developed through a culmination of experiences, both inside the church and in daily life.

For years I had wondered what makes one person's religion differ over another's. So I spent years worshiping at different churches. Episcopalian, Lutheran, Catholic, Presbyterian and Evangelical.

Interesting enough, I found that some differences between churches came down to things like one different word in the Lords Prayer that would send a prospective new church member walking out the door because that word put a whole different meaning to the prayer.

And then there's worshiping from different versions of the bible. Every other person thinks their belief structure is correct.

My wife goes to bible study every week searching for God's truth and answers to spiritual questions. Yet, it appears she will never be satisfied with any answer as other questions follow each answer.

Concerning this post, you will note that my post's heading speaks to what your comment was, 'faith'. However, I will not call into question Mr. Williams personal belief that God had a hand in his redemption...it is Mr. Williams that has walked many miles in his shoes, not me or you or anyone else.

I respect Mr. Williams testament that God was the factor, and I respect your belief that faith was the factor, but our opinion doesn't matter here because another human being has been helped through a personal experience that we, personally, were not a participant in.

When it comes to spiritual beliefs, I learned a long time ago not to judge, not to discount and not to say a person is wrong. Spirituality comes to us all in many different forms. But what I think is most important is that it came to us and we then use it to do good for mankind.

God Bless Mr. Williams.
