Local LGBT Files Suit Against Chick-Fil-A

Now your 1st Amendment rights are under attack by a local Chicago, liberal left/Gay Rights organization for this comment by Mr. Cathy, CEO of Chick-Fil-A

“We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that, guilty as charged for supporting the biblical definition of the family unit.”

The Chicago Phoenix reports that a local Chicago gay right group has now filed suit against those "comments" because it made them 'feel' “unwelcome, objectionable or unacceptable” at Chick-fil-A restaurants, or “public accommodations” under Section 5-102(B) of the Illinois Human Rights Act, the gay rights organization lawyer, Anthony Martinez said.

The compliant states:
“In our current high speed media and social media environment, Chick-fil-A has announced and caused to be published, to hundreds of millions of people, that LGBT people are unacceptable and objectionable,” said Jacob Meister, Governing Board President of TCRA and the attorney who filed the complaint. “They have made it clear the lives of LGBT individuals are unacceptable to them and that same-gender families are unwelcome at Chick-fil-A.”

Martinez contends that Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy’s comments reiterating his opposition to same-sex marriage were more than just his own thoughts and that he was speaking on behalf of his company, stating the views as company policy.

SO this is merely a diversionary tactic by LGBT to take the focus off the attacks of our 1st amendment rights, to express them openly and freely.

Mr. Cathy has never stated the following words:

“We will not serve the gay community”

“We will not embrace the gay community”

“We will never hire the gay community”

“Gays are not welcome at our restaurants”

No sir, no madam, NOT ONCE!

Chick-fil-A mission statement:

“Be America's Best Quick-Service Restaurant"

The LGBT folks are only SPECULATING and attacking Mr Cathy’s opinion, the right to express it, and his interpretation of biblical text.

But knowing Chicago and Illinois liberal courts, they just might win this suit.

But after the turn out of patrons throughout the 1600 Chick-fil-A restaurants in the US and a record revenue day to boot, I am sure Mr Cathy can take this all the way to the supreme court if he has too.

Hi...visiting from work so I'm "Anonymous!"
I can't believe there's a lawsuit now...what more do they want?
That comment of Mr Cathy's makes them feel unwanted? then DON'T GO THERE.
WHat is WRONG with liberals?
Secularists are driving God out any chance they get. Not a great idea.

Z-ANON!!!! (LOL)

"then DON'T GO THERE."

To them, it's not about 'feeling' unwanted, it's about how to bring down a Christian, right-leaning, constitutionally free person speaking their mind, business owner.
They 'HATE' that!
As someone once said (me):) they are hurting their own cause. And Wednesday appreciation day proved that.

LGBT has set themselves up for utter humiliation with their tactics. They have slandered an innocent man and his business, and the majority in the public have seen through it. LGBT has exposed themselves for the hate group they really are by smearing Chick-Fil-A, and they will be eating crow when they see that their schemes they hatched have backfired on them.

This is too stupid for words! Really?! Suing Chick Fil A...for....what? Discrimination? Well, nope, everyone is welcome to be served and to work there, too. Wait, maybe they were threatened? Ohh..well..hmm, nope, the word homosexual isn't even IN Mr. Cathy's statement on marriage. I think when this gets to court, and this case is shown to be the load of bullsh*t it is, those who brought suit should be the ones to go to jail! This is SICK!! Suing and wasting time and clogging the courts with frivolous claims that someone hurt their feelings, but never did they break the law!! Grrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The statute reads as follows:

(775 ILCS 5/5-102) (from Ch. 68, par. 5-102)
Sec. 5-102. Civil Rights Violations: Public Accommodations. It is a civil rights violation for any person on the basis of unlawful discrimination to:
(A) Enjoyment of Facilities, Goods, and Services. Deny or refuse to another the full and equal enjoyment of the facilities, goods, and services of any public place of accommodation;
(B) Written Communications. Directly or indirectly, as the operator of a place of public accommodation, publish, circulate, display or mail any written communication, except a private communication sent in response to a specific inquiry, which the operator knows is to the effect that any of the facilities of the place of public accommodation will be denied to any person or that any person is unwelcome, objectionable or unacceptable because of unlawful discrimination;
(C) Public Officials. Deny or refuse to another, as a public official, the full and equal enjoyment of the accommodations, advantage, facilities or privileges of the official's office or services or of any property under the official's care because of unlawful discrimination."

Now the key words in section (B) states "because of unlawful discrimination"
This is where this suit should be tossed. Expression of thought and belief is NOT unlawful discrimination, folks.
This is frivolous in all aspects.

They are looking more stupid every day--also more desperate. None of this has gone the way gays thought it would so now they are panicking and it is causing them to do even more stupid stuff. That is power to Mr. Cathy.

Anon August 5, 2012 9:41 PM:
No one, not even Huckabee thought it would be such a turn out of support of free speech and freedom of religion. As far as this lawsuit, it should be tossed out, never to see the light of day.

Name calling with no justification and attacks by government is the reason folks like you are losing the support.
It's all about freedom of speech. Mr Cathy never belittle the gay community. YOU are the only one who has interpreted as just.
