14 Democrat Senators in Wisconsin’s state Senate walked off the job today and left the state.
That 14, are the ALL of the Democrats within the Wisconsin Senate.
This over a dispute about the bill that would ban collective bargaining rights for teachers, requires educators to contribute 5.8 percent to their pensions and 12.6 percent to their health care. Currently, educators pay 0.2 percent for their pensions and 4 to 6 percent of their health care costs.
It also would reduce the amount the heads of the union can ask of the rank and file for dues, which under this bill would reduce that by $500 a year.
The Senators left the state in a move that would slow down the bill. Senate Republicans hold a 19-14 majority but can't vote on the bill unless at least one Democrat is present.
So the Republicans have found a way to save the rank and file money to help cover the cost of the increase the state is asking from its public unions, but the Democratic leaders appear to be driven by the head of the unions, to kill this whole budget saving move.
The Republican-backed bill, would also strip most other public employees of their collective-bargaining rights.
So what do these elected representatives DO?
Stomp their feet, walk off the job and leave the state, instead of confront it.
What a bunch of 5 year olds!
