Obama Calls For More Gun Control

In the wake of the Colorado shooting, and as expected, President Obama is now calling for the ban on the availability of certain types of guns.
Namely one of the ones used at the massacre.

Obama made this statement Wednesday:

"I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms, but I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities."

The president did, however, suggested Wednesday that it "shouldn't be controversial" to make the case that a "mentally unbalanced" person shouldn't be able to get a gun so easily.
"we should check someone's criminal record before they can check out a gun seller"
"And I, like most Americans, believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms. And we recognize the traditions of gun ownership that passed on from generation to generation."

So, what is it? Banning the sale of AR-15 (By the way, that was the weapon used, not an AK-47) to citizens, or banning the sale of guns to people who are mentally unbalanced?

And there is already a requirement to "check someone criminal record" before a purchase. But Obama wants to check out someones background before they even talk to a gun seller???

Obama claims he is an advocate of our second amendment rights to keep and bear arms.

However, as a Senator in the Illinois Senate, he voted against Senate bill 2165, a law that was introduced in response to DeMar's case. Hale DeMar, a 52-year-old Wilmette resident, who was arrested and charged with misdemeanor violations for shooting, in the shoulder and leg, a burglar who broke into his home not once, but twice. Cook County prosecutors dropped all charges against DeMar.

And so the bill was designed to assert a right of citizens to protect themselves against home invasions, such that self-defense requirements would be viewed to take precedence over local ordinances against handgun possession. The measure passed the Illinois Senate by a vote of 38-20. Barack Obama was one of the 20 state senators voting against the measure.

Governor Rod Blagojevich vetoed the bill and on Nov. 9, 2004, the Illinois Senate voted 40-18 to override Blagojevich's veto.

Again, Obama acted against the bill.

On Nov. 17, the Illinois House voted overwhelmingly, 85-30, to override the governor's veto and Senate Bill 2165 became law.

In 1996, when Obama was running for the Illinois state Senate. A Chicago nonprofit, Independent Voters of Illinois, had this question directed at Obama, and he took hard line:

Q35. Do you support state legislation to:
    a. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Yes.
    b. ban assault weapons? Yes.
    c. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Yes.

In a 2000 bill, Obama cosponsored to limit handgun purchases to one per month (it did not pass). He voted against letting people violate local weapons bans in cases of self-defense, but also voted in 2004 to let retired police officers carry concealed handguns.

More can be read here.

What this all boils down to is this.... Obama is in campaign mode... His history has proven he is NO advocate of 2nd amendment rights, PERIOD!

Obama will use this Colorado shooting as an excuse to sign the UN S-A-T. It's so predictable with this anti-constitutional president.
But it won't settle well with the American people. An overwhelming majority favor the right to keep and bear.
